Why we use CCTV

We use CCTV:

  • To prevent and detect crime, theft, disorder and antisocial behaviour.

  • To help protect customers, visitors, employees and property.

  • To investigate accidents, incidents and complaints where footage is relevant.

  • To assist the police, licensing authority or another authorised organisation where appropriate.

  • To comply with applicable requirements of the premises licence.

Our principal lawful basis for processing CCTV images is our legitimate interest in maintaining safety, security and preventing crime. Where applicable, we may also process footage to comply with a legal obligation. We balance these purposes against the privacy rights and interests of the people recorded.

What information we record

The CCTV system records images of people in monitored areas at Billy Budds. Recordings may show a person’s appearance, behaviour and location, together with the date and time.

The cameras do not record conversations or other audio.

We do not use facial recognition technology or other automated identification. CCTV is not used for routine monitoring of employee performance.

How long we keep recordings

CCTV recordings are normally retained for 30 days, after which they are automatically overwritten or securely deleted.

Relevant footage may be retained for longer when it is required in connection with:

  • An accident or incident.

  • A criminal or regulatory investigation.

  • A legal claim or insurance matter.

  • A request by an individual concerning their information.

  • An appropriate disclosure to the police or another authorised organisation.

Footage retained for one of these reasons will be securely deleted when it is no longer required.

Who can see the footage

Access to CCTV recordings is restricted to individually authorised and appropriately trained personnel who require access as part of their duties.

Where appropriate and lawful, relevant footage may be disclosed to:

  • The police or other law enforcement agencies.

  • Licensing or regulatory authorities.

  • Insurers and legal advisers.

  • Courts or tribunals.

  • CCTV maintenance or technology providers acting on our behalf.

  • Other organisations where disclosure is required or permitted by law.

We do not sell CCTV footage or use it for advertising or marketing.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • Ask whether we hold CCTV images of you.

  • Request a copy of your personal data.

  • Ask us to restrict or erase footage.

  • Object to our use of your personal data.

  • Complain about how your information has been handled.

These rights are not absolute. For example, we may need to retain footage for legal reasons and we must also protect the privacy of other people appearing in a recording.

To help us locate relevant footage, please contact us promptly and provide:

  • The date and approximate time of your visit.

  • The area of the premises you visited.

  • A description of yourself and your clothing.

  • Any other information that may help us identify the recording.

We may ask for proof of identity before releasing footage. Images of other people may need to be obscured. We normally respond to personal data requests without undue delay and within one month.
